TitleBrampton Park House.
DescriptionSide view of Brampton Park House. In1889 the house was leased from the Duke of Manchester by Benjamin Beasley, Professor of Elocution. The 1890 trade directory entry reads "Brampton Park, the property of the Duke of Manchester, and now the residence of Benjamin Beasley esq. is situated to the south-west of the village: the mansion is a stately but picturesque edifice of red brick, in mixed styles; the park embraces within its circuit a considerable extent of land, richly timbered."
Benjamin Beasley and his son (also Benjamin) ran a school for stammerers and for those with speech impediments at Brampton Park from 1889 until the house was mostly destroyed by fire in 1907, and there are many images in the collections of his pupils performing at speech days. Benjamin Beasley senior was distraught after the fire, and died a few days later at the George Hotel in Huntingdon. See WH3/2252A-C for images of the house after the fire.
