TitleGeorge Street, Huntingdon, prior to alteration.
DescriptionA view looking down George Street towards the George Hotel, before the removal of the garages at the George Hotel, and the widening of the road. Part of Windover's factory building is on the left of the image, with the row of shops including Elphicks in the distance on the right. Two cars are approaching the camera, the closest one with the number plate EW7232. A large advert attached to one of the George Hotel's garages can be seen in the distance - "Stop right here. George Hotel. Proprietor G Odell". Ernest Whitney has written on this print "George St before alteration".
The Hunts Post of the 4th February 1937 contains this photograph and DC134, with the following description, "These two pictures of George Street, Huntingdon, facing east, give a clear indication of the improved effect by the demolition of the old buildings attached to the George Hotel and the widening of the street. This is only one of the many improvements to be carried out in the county. People who left Huntingdon some years back will find a great difference in the town's face if they return in a year or so. There must be many more changes in the near future to cope with the ever increasing volume of traffic".
