TitleThe demolition of St Marys vicarage, Huntingdon
DescriptionThis view shows the demolition of St Marys vicarage as part of the widening of the junction of the High Street and Hartford Road.. The roof tiles have been removed from the building, and two men on ladders are working on one of the chimney stacks. The Three Tuns public house can be seen, with Trinity church in the background.
This image was printed in the Hunts Post of the 3rd December 1936 with the caption "The Scene Changes. Work was commenced last week on the demolition of St Mary's Vicarage, Huntingdon, following on the decision of the local authorities to widen Hartford Road corner. The familiar old house will be missed by many who have passed by it for many years, but they will not be sorry to see the long overdue corner improvements, which will compensate for the disappearance of the old building....the picture was taken from the top storey of the Hunts Post offices on Tuesday, when the workmen were dismantling the north chimney stack. By next week there should be very little of the walls standing"
Ernest Whitney has written on this print "Demolition of St Marys Vicarage Hartford Road corner. Trinity Church in background"
