TitleCopy of Act 18 and 19 Charles II ca.26 for 'The ascertaining the bounds of the several rectories of Swaffham St. Cyriac and of Swaffham St. Mary's within the town of Swaffham Prior in the County of Cambridge and for the uniting of the two churches there.'
DescriptionThe circumstances leading to the decision to obtain the Act are described in Dr. Hill's Tithe Book (P150/3/2). The terms of the Act provided for the lands of the two parishes, which had become intermixed, to be apportioned, and for the benefices to be united. Previously the Bishop of Ely as patron had collated to St. Cyriac's and the Dean and Chapter had presented to St. Mary's. Presentations were now to be made alternately and the inhabitants were to attend whichever of the two churches the Bishop designated for use. Nevertheless, both churches were to be kept in good repair, and separate officers and rates were to be continued. The two vicarage houses were to be converted into one. (See P150/3/2 for details of structural alterations).
