Description | She feels deeply the sad step M [the Duke] has taken - it will be destructive to usefulness, his peace and only one motive will be imputed. Mandeville came yesterday and she was hurt by the absence of "everything but where self was concerned." He was out of temper and wanted her to pay the expences of the Westminster business. She showed him letters from Mr Nugent and Mr Lefroy, who say she should not pay anything unless she wishes. Mandeville has often written begging her to write to Major B and say what she would contribute... [final page missing]. |
