DescriptionAppointments of; churchwardens, Overseers assistant overseers, highway surveyors, constables, vestry clerk, masters of the workhouse, keeper of the church and town clock (at the cross), Bellman/Beadle/Crier, Pindar, seachers of; weights and measures, fish and flesh, and leather, keeper of the parish fire engine, sexton, scavenger and surgeon/apothecary. Setting of Overseers and Churchwardens rates and auditing of their accounts. Agreements concerning the farm of the poor, in the workhouse, (their diet 1814) new buildings for the workhouse 1817-18, the erection of a new cage in part of the workhouse yard/buildings or in the engine house. 13 Oct 1825, & 29 May 1828 & 19 Jun 1828, sale of the old workhouse premises discussed Sep 1838, May 1839 & Feb 1841 - part of the proceeds to be used to build a new lock-up and engine house in St. Nicholas Lane, similar to the ones taken down in the workhouse. Special rates levied for the innoculation of the poor 1787, 1793, 1797, 1801 and 1807, in 1832 a new medical officer appointed who was prepared to attend cholera cases, on 15 Nov 1831 orders were issued to improve public health and on 27 Nov 1831 a Board of Health was formed. Memoranda on removals and appeals against removal orders. Memoranda of leases of Town Lands. Memoranda on the purchase of lands to enlarge the church-yard 28 Dec 1802 & 1808, 1820 the steeple of the church to be surveyed, 1825 the leads to be repaired, 1841 rate levied to repair the church and on 16 Apr 1846 it was decided to purchase a new church clock. (letter of 1846 giving estimates for various types of clock). Memorandum of sextons fees 1807, and copy letter of appointment of Thos Meadows Junr. as sexton giving details of his duties, 25 Jan 1843, and various memoranda on the salary of the parish clerk 1807, 1810 etc. Various memoranda concerning the repair of road etc in the parish, ie 23 Nov 1791 the Waits were repaired, 26 Mar 1829 Merryland and Water Lane to be paved and drained, on 9 Dec 1830 the vestry agreed to adopt the provisions of the lighting and watching act and on 29 Sep 1842 the first paid Parish Constable appointed, in 1814 the duties of the scavenger in respect of keeping the streets clean were listed. Memoranda concerning the raising of men for service in the navy under an act of 5 Mar 1795 (St. Ives to provide 23/4 men and Broughton 1/4) 13 Apr 1826 decided by vote of 33 to 26 to appoint a select vestry (select vestry members appointed each year) (open vestrys still held to appoint parish officers, select vestry set rates and put poor out to farm).
