DescriptionThe letters refer mainly to the numerous schemes, both national and local, for raising funds for the work of the Red Cross. There are some letters enclosing money from local efforts and receipts for these. There are also notices and letters about sales, locally and in London, of, for example, furniture pictures, fruit, plants, wines and cigars, to raise money. There are also notices and letters about flag days, fetes, whist drives etc. There are two signed letters from the Duke of Gloucester and a signed letter from Sir Edwin Lutyers requesting Lord Sandwich to become a member of the Red Cross Sales Committee for Pictures. There are also memoranda setting out details of the Penny-A-Week Fund, of the parcels for Prisoners of War, of the car of the wounded in the county if there should be an invasion and fighting in the area and of the aid available to the war disabled. There are a few letters concerning the collection of sphagnum moss from Lord Sandwich's Dorset property for bandages. There are also letters and a leaflet about the closing in 1945 of the Red Cross hospital at Hinchingbrooke.
