TitleDeed of arrangement for the division of the soil of Whittlesea Mere in the county of Huntingdon, with plan of Mere
Description1. The Right Honourable William Thomas Earley Lord Saye and Sele. 2. William Wells of Holme, esquire. 3. The Very Reverend George Butler, DD, Dean of the Cathedral Church of Peterborough; the Chapter of the same Church. 4. The Right Honourable Thomas Grenville; the Right Honourable Charles Watkin Williams Wynn; the Honourable George Matthew Fortescue; the Right Honourable Richard Griffin, Lord Braybrooke; all being devisees in trust under the will of the Right Honourable John Joshua late Earl of Carysfort, deceased. Recites that the lake or mere known as Whittlesey Mere with the reed shoals is situated partly in the Manor of Farcet and partly in the Manor of Glatton with Holme and is intersected by the ancient division line between the said manors represented on the plan running from the corner of the said mere formerly known as Falsetubb but now called Johnson Point in a NW direction to a place formerly called Arlmyndes Hill. Recites that 1, 2, 3 and 4 are entitled to various amounts of the soil and reed shoals. Recites that an Act of Parliament was passed in the last session entitled ‘An Act for Improving the drainage and navigation of the Middle Level of the Fens’ and that the operation of drainage intended to be carried out on the mere will mean the greater part of the soil and reed shoals will be capable of being brought under cultivation. This indenture therefore divides the soil and reed shoals between the respective parties, according to the enclosed plan.
