Title | Letter from Thomas Maynard, British Consul at Lisbon, to Sir Richard Fanshaw, British Ambassador there. |
Description | Maynard protests against the accusation, made against him by the Condé de Castelmelhor (King Alfonso's chief minister) of trying to cause trouble between England and Portugal, now that Cromwell is dead and England has a king once more. (N.B. This is part of a collection of Fanshaw documents, originally at Conington and reviewed by R.C.H.M. in 1899 - see report p.128. The rest of this collection is apparently now at the Librarian's Dept. of the London Borough of Barking.) Enclosed: Two sheets of Portugese (?) writing presumably referring to the dispute. |
