DescriptionThe Library Committee met monthly and discussed issues relating to the running and administration of the city's libraries or reading rooms. Issues discussed included the ordering and purchase of new books, magazines, newspapers and periodicals; reports of the book sub-committee would be read for recommendations on new publications; withdrawal of books from the shelves due to their condition; maintenance and provision of suitable accommodation for libraries and reading rooms, reports from the Law and Property Committee would often be read where appropriate; amendments to reading room rules; details of library staff including new appointments; reports on visitor numbers and numbers of books loaned; and statements of income and expenditure.
