TitlePetition of Thomas Gunthorp
Description18 or 20 years ago, while serving the Corporation, he lost his house through a great flood which carried away the sluice; he was then receiving £10 pa as salary. He was re-employed by the Corporation at £6 pa but he did not receive this in full and again lost his house, this time by fire, which the Corporation promised to replace, but did not, so he had to rebuild it at his own expense on Justice Edwards' land who demanded rent. He also reports that the Great sluice at sea needs repair, and they should make a stay of the sea channel - also the vessels lying in the channel do much damage and should be prevented by a chain and posts.
