TitleBunbury, William (senior) - Clerk of Great Catworth: will
DescriptionWilliam Bunbury in fact died on the 16 December 1748. He appointed his two sons Charles and William as executors, but Charles died less than six months after his father and was buried on the 10 June 1749. The second son William proved his brother's will, but his father's will was much more complicated and seems to have been sidelined. William himself drew up his own will in 1753, and probably died in January 1754 as his widow Susanna is acting as his executrix in 1754. Susanna remarried ten years later, on the 14 February 1764, to George Raitt of Huntingdon. George died in January 1785 and Susanna probably inherited his property - was it only then discovered by Susanna that her first husband's father's will had not actually been proved, hence its probate is dated nearly 40 years after his death? Whilst sorting her husband's affairs, it was noticed by Robert Hodson that William Bunbury senior's will had not been proved or ingrossed, and therefore Susanna was required to act as administrix. William's will was finally proved and ingrossed on the 20 January 1786, thirty-eight years after his death.
