DescriptionThe Chief Constable's responsibilities included regular inspections of constables' uniforms, promoting officers to higher ranks, reprimanding officers for misconduct and swearing-in new members of the Force. The Deputy Chief Constable (often the Chief Superintendent) and the Chief Clerk (often the Chief Inspector) also worked within the Chief Constable's Office. The Chief Constable's Office was based in Ely until 1939 when the Office moved to March.
